Photo Essay
Written Narrative
My photo essay shows the different angles of tulips in bloom in spring. There are tulips of different colors, open and closed, far and close-up. The pictures were taken of the tulips in the school courtyard. I picked this place because of its beautiful scenery. It's important to me since I love flowers, especially tulips. This series portrays beginning and happiness at the start of the spring season. The flowers capture this concept because they are just starting to bloom, showing new beginnings. The bright, vibrant colors show excitement and happiness that come with spring. The series starts out with a wide shot of the flowers, followed by close ups of individual tulips, and ends with another wide shot. I think the sixth photo is the strongest, the close-up of the orange flower. It had the clear water drops on the flower, and the vibrant orange color. I also like that there are only three flowers in the picture but they all look different, different color, different shape. The ninth photo of the orange-yellow-red flowers. It has a shallow depth of field, focusing on the front flower, but has similar flowers in the background. It also follows the rule of thirds with flowers on the side and in the middle. The photo was taken with an ISO of 800, and a white balance of sunny.
